As the land becomes more like a desert, you will reach Merzouga, which is on the verge of the Sahara. Take a camel ride at sunset, then relax into your desert lodging for a night you’ll never forget under the stars.

Today is dedicated to exploring the Sahara Desert in a 4×4, drive around the dunes and other places, stopping to see nomadic families and learn about their way of life in the desert. Explore old fossil sites and small communities, each of which gives you a taste of the area’s rich history and culture. Enjoy the quiet of the desert, where you may rest, wander on the dunes, or snap beautiful pictures of the environment as it changes. Watch a stunning sunset over the sands in the evening, then have a great supper and listen to traditional music beneath the stars. This will be one of the most memorable parts of the trip.

After breakfast, leave Merzouga and stop at Rissani, an old trade town known for its traditional marketplaces and cultural importance. Keep driving into Todra Gorge, where steep canyon walls rise dramatically along a riverbed. Take some time to wander down the gorge, take in the stunning views, and breathe in the pure mountain air. In the afternoon, travel over beautiful mountain roads to Boumalne Dades, which is noted for its amazing rock formations and beautiful valley vistas. After you check into your accommodation, take it easy for the night and enjoy the peaceful beauty of the Dades Valley.

Leave Boumalne Dades and drive west via a variety of landscapes to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its earthen architecture and cinema heritage. Before you traverse the High Atlas Mountains, take some time to explore the old kasbah and learn about its long history. The mountain passes you travel through will offer beautiful vistas. As you come down from the mountains, the lively energy of Marrakech spreads out in front of you.
